Our Top Tips for Flexible Working

By Jo Geraghty

We recently co-hosted a thought-proving CPO breakfast with Catherine Osaigbovo at Page Executive, diving deep into the ever-evolving landscape of flexible and hybrid working. While there are polarised views on this topic and the shifting expectations of workplaces post Covid, our discussion focused on the nuances, challenges and opportunities that come with designing truly flexible ways of working.

Some of the key themes that emerged:

  • The enforcement dilemma – Should organisations enforce in-office days? As sone companies start to tie career progression and rewards to office presence, the question remains: how do we balance trust with accountability?
  • The often-overlooked groups: Flexible working takes many forms and isn’t just about WFH days – it can be crucial for many people; those in different life stages, or those who simply what to experience work (and life) differently.
  • Managerial skill gaps: Maybe managing teams requires a different leadership approach. Are we equipping managers with the right tools?
  • The talent and equity risk: Blanket “in office” mandates can shrink the talent pool, store up legal risk (indirect sex and disability discrimination being the most obvious), and reward those who dedicate their lives to their employer – while overlooking equally capable but less ‘visible’ talent.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their insights – it’s clear this conversation is far from over!
